Cyclone Montha Weakens After Landfall, Rains Lash Andhra Pradesh

Visakhapatnam: The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) announced that Cyclone Montha, which made landfall near Narasapur late Tuesday night, has gradually weakened. In a statement, APSDMA Managing Director Prakhar Jain said the severe cyclone has reduced to a cyclonic storm and is expected to further weaken into a deep depression within the next six hours.

As a result of the cyclone’s impact, widespread rainfall is being reported across several districts of Andhra Pradesh. Heavy rain is likely in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram Manyam, Alluri Sitarama Raju, Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Eluru, Krishna, NTR, Guntur, Bapatla, and Palnadu districts. Moderate to heavy rainfall is also forecast in Kakinada, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema, East and West Godavari, Prakasam, Nellore, Kurnool, Nandyal, and Anantapur districts, according to the APSDMA.

The disaster management authority cautioned that strong winds are expected to continue in the coastal areas and urged the public to remain alert and take necessary precautions. Cyclone Montha had crossed the Andhra coast between 11:30 p.m. and 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday, near Narasapur, bringing heavy rains and gusty winds to several coastal regions.
