Bollywood Reacts To AR Rahman’s Communal Remark…

AR Rahman’s Communal Remark Sparks Debate; Shaan, Javed Akhtar and Kangana Ranaut React

Well, Indian legendary music director AR Rahman’s communal remark is creating a big buzz on social media. Although it is a big statement, he stated it in his recent BBC interview when the composer was questioned about his slow down in the Hindi film industry… Replying to the question, he stated that its all about shifting power dynamics mentioning the communal thing.

He also stated that it reached him as a Chinese whisper… Elaborating it, he doled out, “Maybe I never get to know of this, maybe it was concealed but I didn’t feel any of this. Maybe in the past eight years because a power shift has happened and people who are not creative have the power now. It might be a communal thing also… but it is not in my face. It comes to me as Chinese whispers that they booked you but the music company went ahead and hired their 5 composers. I say good, I have more time to chill with my family. I am not in search for work. I don’t want to go in search for work. I want work to come to me; my sincerity to earn work. Whatever I deserve, I get.”

Well, after AR Rahman’s comments went viral, another music director Shaan reacted and stated, “I have been singing for so many years and I am also not getting much work. But I don’t go into it much because I feel it is a personal thing. Everyone has their own thoughts and likes. And how much work we should get is not in our hands. Whatever work you get, do it well. Whatever work Mr. Rahman gets, it is his signature style. It is amazing that he is a composer and his fans have not decreased, they are increasing. So if there was any such thing. I don’t think there is any communal minority angle. Whatever you are saying, it doesn’t happen in music. If there was such a thing, then all our three superstars, who have been in the minority for 30 years, but their fans are less than anyone else, are increasing. So it doesn’t happen. Do good work, do good music and don’t think about all this.”

Even Javed Akhtar also reacted and stated, “I have never felt this way. I meet people here in Mumbai. They have great respect for him. Rahman is such a big man. Even a small producer is afraid to go to him. But I don’t think there is any communal element in this. Why don’t you see him? He will definitely come.”

Finally, Bollywood’s fire brand Kangana Ranaut also reacted on AR Rahman’s communal remarks taking to her Instagram handle, “Dear AR Rahman, I face so much prejudice and partiality in the film industry because I support a saffron party, yet I must say I have not come across a man more prejudiced and hateful than you. I desperately wanted to narrate my directorial Emergency to you. Forget narration, you even refused to meet me. I was told you don’t want to be part of a propaganda film. Ironically, Emergency was called a masterpiece by all critics. Even opposition party leaders sent me fan letters appreciating the film for its balanced and compassionate approach but you are blinded by your hate. I feel sorry for you #emergency.”

Well, as of now, this controversy is making its place in the headlines…
