Nothing can be better than an India–Pakistan match, and when it’s Sunday, it’s definitely a treat for all of us, isn’t it???
Today being the match day, most of the people I mean, especially cricket lovers, would love to watch the match with their besties. Thus, be it resorts, hotels, or any gathering, the match will definitely stream on the big screens.
Well, Pakistan has already tasted the Indian medicine in the group stage, and the ‘Hand-Shake’ controversy highlighted Pakistan’s ‘Over-Acting’ wala attitude, which landed them nowhere except reaching one hour late to their next match.
Well, it’s the same match referee, Andy Pycroft, who was blamed for the ‘Handshake’ controversy. But nothing has been changed by the ICC or ACC. So, he will be present again for today’s big match.
Amid this chaos, let’s also check the previous ASIA CUP results of India-Pakistan matches:
The Asia Cup was first held in 1984, and India won the inaugural edition. Our team also defeated Pakistan by 54 runs in the group stage and went on to win the trophy, beating Sri Lanka in the finals.
Next edition was in 1986… But India didn’t participate… So, the finals were between Sri Lanka and Pakistan, and the winners were the Lankans.
Next comes 1988 – This year too India defeated Pakistan in the group stage with 4 wickets and won the title by defeating Sri Lanka by 6 wickets.
Then we will discuss about 1991 – Although Pakistan was not present in the tournament, India defeated Sri Lanka in the finals.
Next, the tournament was in 1995 – In this tournament, although Pakistan defeated India in the group stage, finally, India finally won by 8 wickets against Sri Lanka and bagged the trophy once again.
Then comes 1997 – In this tournament, two times India-Pakistan matches were abandoned. But in the finals, Sri Lanka defeated India by 8 wickets and bagged the trophy.
Coming to 2000 – It was a bad phase for the Indian team as our team lost against Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the group stages. Thus, finals were held between Lanka and Pakistan.
Next, we will discuss about 2004 edition – Well, Pakistan once again defeated India in the group stage. But we made sure to reach the finals but lost against Sri Lanka.
In 2008 edition, too, Pakistan won against India in the group stage. But, we played the finals and lost against Sri Lanka!
Next comes the MS Dhoni era, and the tournament was held in 2010 – India thrashed Pakistan in the group stage and then bagged the trophy by beating Sri Lanka in the finals.
In 2012, although we defeated Pakistan in the group stage, Pakistan played the finals with Bangladesh and bagged the trophy.
Coming to 2014, Pakistan won against India in the group stage and played the final against Sri Lanka.
In 2016, India didn’t play against Pakistan. Well, we also defeated Bangladesh in the finals!
Coming to 2018, we thrashed Pakistan in the group stage and Super Four too. We bagged the title by defeating Bangladesh in the finals too!
Coming to 2022, post-covid stage, although we defeated Pakistan in the group stage, we lost to then in the Super Four. And thus finals were held between Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
Next, we will discuss about 2023 – We thrashed Pakistan in the super four stage and bagged the trophy playing against Sri Lanka in the finals.
And now, we will come to the 2025 edition – Already, we thrashed Pakistan in the group stage and now are ready to play against them today. Hope the result gets repeated as the Indian team is much stronger than the Pakistan team!
