Madras High Court Halts Release of Karthi’s Vaa Vaathiyaar

Karthi’s upcoming film Vaa Vaathiyaar (Annagaaru Vastaadu) has encountered a major setback after the Madras High Court ordered a halt to its release. Directed by Nalan Kumarasamy and produced by Gnanavel Raja under Studio Green, the film was originally scheduled to release on December 12. The legal development has disrupted the production team’s release plans.

The dispute began after a petition was filed in the Madras High Court by the administrator of industrialist Arjun Lal Sundar Das’ properties, claiming that producer Gnanavel Raja had borrowed Rs 10.35 crore in the past, an amount that has now grown to Rs 21.78 crore. The petitioner requested that the film’s release be stayed until repayment, and the court had earlier imposed a temporary stay. During the latest hearing, the administrator’s counsel argued that Raja failed to repay the loan despite multiple opportunities and urged the court to attach his assets.

The High Court observed that sufficient chances had already been provided to the producer and ruled that the film cannot be released until the pending dues are cleared. Meanwhile, the production house has stated that the film will release soon, indicating that a new release date may be announced once the financial dispute is resolved.
